Located near one of the largest brick works and Mankato stone quarries in the United States, the monastery cloister was designed to use these readily available materials to minimize construction costs and support local businesses. A cavity wall of double wythe brick, set atop hollow brick columns and stone arches became both the finished surfaces and the formwork for the reinforced concrete structure.
